first field trip

this is our first field trip - to Seri Iskandar and Batu Gajah outcrop area

Alhamdulillah,we were given the chance to learn about this interesting part of science that we are also used to  think it is a boring subject. PG = batu ? PG = tepi jalan punya batu ,and PG = minyak,hehe

Geology  or geoscience is basically a part of science that study about earth. One stupendous fact about soil,is remember Prophet Adam;s story ?I've heard somewhere,from a lecture if I am not mistaken is analogically,human do behave like soil.

“Wahai sekelian manusia! Jika kamu masih ragu-ragu terhadap hari qiamat sesungguhnya Kami (Allah S.W.T.) telah jadikan kamu dari tanah, kemudian daripada air mani dan mani menjadi darah sampai ia menjadi sepotong daging yang telah sempurna kejadiannya dan yang belum sempurna, supaya Kami beri keterangan kepada kamu dan Kami tetapkan di dalam kandungan (rahim) ibu mengikut kehendak Kami, sampailah waktu tertentu maka Kami keluarkan kamu dari kandungan ibumu menjadi kanak-kanak kemudian sampai kamu menjadi orang dewasa. Di antara kamu ada orang yang dimatikan dan ada yang dipanjangkan hidupnya sampai terlalu tua hingga tidak dapat mengetahui apa-apa sedangkan sebelumnya kamu mengetahui.” - Surah al-Hajj: ayat 5.

There are three types of soil.

1. When it rains,the soil can be the reservoir or the place to store water ,but it stops there.'lopak'

2.When it rains,the soil are fertile and grow plants.'alluvial,turf'

3. The soil are not affected by rains and are porous.When it rains,it cannot hold water and dry it.It do not contribute and also harm others.-sands

So do human.

1. We can get the knowledge and make ourselves better.

2. We can make ourselves better and benefit others also

3. We do not make ourselves better and instead of that,we are harming others also.

It was raining heavily but geologists work either rain or shine,either sun or moon # eh?

It is passion . ATTITUDE . If you want to excel you will work on it =)



black shale at batu gajah outcrop area. We can hardly see the colour - all blackish and some red,green,white   tones.The black shale is meta-sedimentary rocks or sedi-metamorphosed rock,I couldn't recall ==.

It is sedimentary rocks but due to some pressure and high temperatures,million years ago,I mean - HUNDRED million years ago - at Carboniferous era or early Palaeozoic if I were not mistaken,it is metamorphosed but are not qualified enough to become metamorphic rocks.

It has quarts,organic minerals-calcites and so forth,and iron/hematite/manganese oxides.-the blackish tint come from organic minerals,Greenish-iron oxides,red-hematite,yellow-gerrocites or goethite and others I can't remember.

The lamination happened and I'm not really sure if there are any dinasours there  :P

But one interesting fact is the plants-or those kinds of C3 and C4 plants are there,producing those kinds rocks.feSO4,FeSO3...sulphur from volcanic eruptions.Granite,goethite,and so on....

The beddings are different.



nice hematite tint,feldspar,quartz,golthite,kaolinite

- sandstone and shale



this is GPS to locate ourselves-altitude = 50m from sealevel



brunton compass- to be used as COMPASS ,not as compact powder mirror-Well,it do look the same :D

It can be used to measure the strike and dip

Faults,folds,joint,unconformities bla bla bla



This is our life as first year student :)



there are loooooooooootts of minerals to be known - not just memorised and we're enjoying the subjects.


Learn from nature and never be proud and ego of yourselves.Don't feel so high.Allah is our creator,and do your best as Caliph in this world
