stories of flood
bismillahirrahmanirrahim
back to my hometown to get some things settled.(I mean,THINGS),haha-
the republic of Besut. It's raining heavily, signifies the second wave (atau third wave)of flood kot?
As long as I have lived here, every monsoon season we'll have news of people getting transferred to school because their place was flooded.( It'll always raining heavily, especially when tengkujuh season). My house is near the beach,so the weather will be extremely cold and no one dare to go to swim at the beach. My experience of flood maybe comes around 13,12 years ago.At that time, still new to the place since was being raised in Kelantan ( Kuala Krai also got long history of flood ).Sungai Kelantan and Sungai Besut - are the main reason of the rising of the water.Luckily, our house's altitude is quite high.
Watching kids playing on tyre to float, swam happily while adults busy transferring valuable stuffs, really a nie view to see - just like a picture you watch in Reader's Digest.Real Asia.
Real catastrophe, real rahmat, real test - Dia nak tarik nikmat kita ni kejap je kan? Bergantung pada kita nak nampak ke takhandle situation ni camne. It's quite dangerous actually to play in flood since the water came from nowhere - imagine those flowing water from toilets etc ( that's what elders said to us during our childhood la,maybe to prevent us from playing around the water)
Unfortunately, the season silently watches a lot of casualties.Youngsters, children, elders lost in the stream.Myths and legends began to spread.
Years ago, there's a very famous myth( not sure if it is a true one ) about Ikan Naga (Arapaima Gigas).Have you heard about it?It looks just like Arapaima or Arowana ( Ikan Kelisa ) but with bigger scale.Bigger scale I mean is like 100 times bigger.Really big, just like the one that we usually watch in films or National Geographic Documentary." Amazon River predator " - gonna switch that to " Besut River Predator ".
The myth said that actually before, the ikan naga is "dibela"-haha,don't quite remember the exact word by a rich man, just like usual manja-manja fish. But then the fish gets bigger and cannot fit the aquarium - at 1 point nearly eat the owner's pet ( Have you watch Ikan toman eating man's flesh? or easier, piranha? --> better do not watch ,kinda eerie ).Then, things getting more dangerous so he decided to let it go to the river, then flood happens and the story spread like movie Jaws being shown to us. ( There will be addition to the stories to make it more interesting - alah, biasalah kita ).The truth - still undiscovered .
The story actually convinced many people like me at that time to not to play in flood since that Ikan Naga even reported to eat villagers' cows. Many of them.Effect of movies maybe?
Don't know the truth but really,it's dangerous to play in unknown water source.Nowadays we got infectious diseases like leptospirosis and so-known as air kencing tikus.
Better take preventive actions.
Actually, why do I start telling stories about flood? It is because...
a single chapter in a novel that I happened to read last week - Gua Ikut Enta . Nice travelogue, but just read the first chapter :( Need to find it in bookstore in the future.
Lucky to become flood victim at this time, more authoritized board will come and give free food, things.
Something big will happen soon? :)
